The Spanish Maestro of the Guitar
Pepe Romero is a true artist, with an old world charm, just like his father had, with a tremendous talent and facility on the guitar. I've always appreciated his modesty, and warmth, along with his unselfish devotion to music and the guitar. As a teacher he is most inspiring, and knows secrets of the guitar that even few professionals know. This goes beyond mere technique and into the realm of the spirit and soul of music.
If I stop and think about how lucky I was to have been a student of Pepe's, his unselfish gift of sharing what he knows to me is a priceless gift. He is of such stature in the guitar world that he easily could have said no, but he didn't, and I will always be grateful for that.
And I can't help but mention, Pepe's wonderful father Celedonio, (r.i.p), and his wonderful brothers, Angel & Celin the original Los Romeros all of whom made me feel part of their family. I have not seen a more rich environment full of love, than that family. Now the next generation is keeping the family tradition alive with the addition of Celedonio's grandson Celino, and Angel's son Lito.
Pepe is also a tremendous flamenco player. All the great flamenco artists would drop by and visit his father Celedonio, and Pepe would be there absorbing the depth of this music.
