Guitar Studio Policy Statement
I'm delighted to be your guitar teacher and look forward to coaching you along the compelling path of creative expression and guitar mastery.
On a business note, I have some policies and procedures I want you to be familiar with. Just some clarity on a few things so you know what is expected of you as one of my students. Please know that if you have any questions regarding these we can discuss them further.
I realize that sometimes there are circumstances outside our control, and I wil be sympathitic and flexible if your parent suddenly dies or something of that nature occurs.
I hate to resort to putting things in writing, but over my many years of teaching, I've learned that it is best to have things written down so that everything is clear, and to have a way to avoid possible misunderstandings or bad feelings.
The Policy keeps us ALL organized and I am a more effective
and efficient guitar teacher as a result
Tuition Fees
Fees are payable in advance by the quarter or by month, and are due the first lesson of the month. I will sometimes make an exception if a student is paying cash each time.
My lesson rates are calculated with the assumption that you are enrolled for regular weekly lessons. Anything less than a regular weekly schedule, (like alternate weeks), will raise my hourly rate. So remember you will have to make up the difference if you take anything less than my regular schedule.
Since I bill by the hour. If you run the lesson over an hour, I will expect to be paid for the extra time. (15 min increments) Sometimes I may extend the lesson time to turn you on to some new music, or something, but I will clearly tell you if the time is out of my own pocket.
If your lesson gets interrupted by an important call that I absolutely have to take, (vary rare occurrence) I will extend the lesson or make up the lost time by having you come a bit early next time.
For students who can only afford to come every fortnight?
If they honestly can not afford it - I will allow for it but put them at the end of the day's schedule, so that I am not sitting around waiting for the next student. If they use it as an excuse, I will not accept that and will either recommend they go to another teacher or re-evaluate why they want lessons.
If you refer a student to me, and they take lessons for more than a month, I will give you a FREE lesson!
Absences
No deduction or credit will be made for missed lessons without proper notice. All lessons must be paid for whether taken or missed. If missed with notice then I will arrange a makeup lesson.
Our Lesson Agreement requires a 48 hour cancellation notice.
Your commitment to lessons is fundamental to your progress. Once we have agreed on a regular meeting time, you will be expected to manage your schedule so that you do not miss appointments. You are financially responsible for any appointments canceled or missed. If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend a scheduled appointment, you may be charged for that appointment unless Ken Brown is able to fill your scheduled appointment time.
I plan my whole day around my teaching schedule, and if you suddenly call and cancel, for one, I might not be there earlier in the day, and many times I have to rush through traffic from where I am to be there for an appointment. Or I have to stop a project that I'm in the middle of to prepare myself for your appointment.
So if I get a message on my answering machine that you can't make the lesson, I'm stuck, I can't schedule someone in your spot, and since I've stopped and put away what project I was working on, it takes a lot of time to re-adjust and get back to where I was.
If you can't make the lesson, please try to get a hold of me in person. Call my cell phone (650) 248-1607 and follow up with an email also. guitarkenbrown@aol.com
In reality, you are paying for my time whether your here or not.
So if you ask to re-schedule on the same day, it's a bit too late, your time slot has expired. If you want to schedule a make-up lesson, I will accommodate you, but you will have to pay for it and the lesson you missed.
If I receive at least 48 hr. notice, I will try to re-schedule a missed lesson, though this may occasionally not be possible. As my schedule is rather full. Naturally, I will make up all lessons missed through MY absence or cancellation.
Leave of Absence
It is possible to arrange an extended leave of absence of two to four weeks provided a two-week notice is given.
